About Maha Shivaratri

Shivaratri is a festival of great spiritual significance that takes place every month, but the most sacred of all of these is Maha Shivarathri. The moon has sixteen kalas or aspects, similar to the human mind. But on the holy day of Maha Shivaratri, 15 of these aspects are absent, leaving just one behind, which can easily be merged in divinity, by diverting the mind towards God.

About the Lingam

The Lingam, which means That in which this merges or dissolves, is symbolic of how eventually all forms will have to merge in the Formless.

candramā manaso jātaḥ

The moon is the presiding deity of the mind, and therefore exerts a great influence on it.
